Safely Reopen Your Facility After Infection
Despite your best efforts, germs will inevitably find their way into your facility and threaten the well-being of all occupants. These matters have always been a concern, but the COVID-19 pandemic opened everyone's eyes to just how quickly certain pathogens can rampage through a facility. In addition to COVID concerns, property managers must be on alert for influenza, RSV, common colds, and other highly transmissible diseases. When someone (or multiple people) in your facility comes down with something, you must act quickly to mitigate further transmission that threatens your people and productivity. This is where The Budd Group's remediation disinfection and cleaning services come into play.
Remediation refers to any action that remedies an issue — so, in the case of disinfection and cleaning, remediation is all about ensuring your facility is free from harmful germs after someone has fallen ill. There may be no way to prevent or eliminate all contaminants in your facility, but several actions can reduce the risk of further transmission and keep occupants safe and healthy in the midst of a recent outbreak and afterward.
What Remediation Disinfection and Cleaning Entails
The Budd Group follows the latest CDC guidelines for remediation disinfection and cleaning, including:
- Temporarily closing off infected areas
- Letting in fresh air when possible
- Thoroughly disinfecting surfaces and areas (especially high-touch ones) using CDC- and EPA-compliant products
- Following general recommendations for cleaning and disinfection of facilities housing ill persons
- ...and more!

What Should I Do if Someone Gets Sick at My Workplace?
Employees that feel unwell should report it to their supervisors immediately and stay home while symptoms remain (or until they no longer test positive for the disease in question). From there, a remediation disinfection and cleaning program should go into effect, wherein infected and high-risk areas are temporarily closed off, ventilation is increased, surfaces are cleaned and disinfected, etc. Employee health should then be monitored in the following days to track the spread of illness.
How Effective Is Disinfection at Preventing the Spread of Germs?
Disinfectants are designed to kill germs after a certain level of exposure (dwell time). That said, some disinfectants are more effective than others, and some products only target specific types of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. As such, it is imperative for facilities to use the right EPA-registered and CDC-compliant disinfectants and follow their instructions carefully.
What Is the Best Disinfection Method?
Many products and tools can be used to disinfect areas, such as spraying disinfectant and wiping surfaces, electrostatic spraying, fogging/misting, antimicrobial barrier technology, UVC light, and more. Each method has its own advantages and setbacks. By and large, however, electrostatic spraying and antimicrobial barrier technology offer the most comprehensive and efficient disinfection methods for facilities.
