Stripping and Waxing Floors
Facilities that experience a lot of foot traffic must invest in floors that will remain intact and leave a strong impression on every customer and guest. Properly maintaining these floors will help ensure that they won’t require major repairs down the road. For certain types of floors, stripping and waxing are crucial components in protecting them from many kinds of damage. Stripping and waxing are a part of The Budd Group’s floor care services.
What is Stripping and Waxing?
Stripping and waxing are two closely related but separate processes, primarily done on vinyl, epoxy, acrylic, linoleum and VCT flooring. Stripping refers to the process by which existing wax is completely removed from the floor. Waxing takes place after stripping, providing a fresh layer of wax to the bare floor. In other words, a new coat of wax should not be applied to the floor until the old one has been removed.
How Stripping and Waxing Floors Keeps Them Strong and Beautiful
Performing these processes serves two major purposes. First, it protects a floor from scratches, liquid spills, tile lifting, discoloration and other forms of damage while providing a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. Second, properly waxing a floor leaves a beautiful shine that enhances a facility’s overall appearance.
Stripping the old floor first is crucial to serving these purposes. If the old coat remains, all of the dust and dirt on top of it will be stuck underneath the new layer of wax. As new layers are added over old ones, it becomes more difficult to remove this built-up grime, and the floor will lose its shine. Eventually, stripping away the old wax may cause damage to the floor. At the very least, it will require loads of cleaning solution and labor costs to completely remove.
If properly stripped, however, waxing over a clean, bare floor will protect it for a long time. It is recommended to strip and wax floors approximately every one to two years if there are no signs of damage. At The Budd Group, we work with each of our customers to set up optimal schedules and solutions fit for their unique needs. We will provide our stripping and waxing services whenever they are required in order to help maintain the durability and aesthetic of a facility.
